Anderson and Sanders Crowned Champions at Jack Mendenhall Invitational

Saturday the Glenwood wrestling team traveled to Ames, Iowa for the Jack Mendenhall Invitational. Seventeen teams competed in the tournament from Iowa and Nebraska. Glenwood’s Caleb Sanders and Trevor Anderson both won their weight classes and were crowned champions at the Jack Mendenhall Invitational.

 

Trevor Anderson won the invitational at 145. Anderson received a first round bye and then defeated Josh Borg of Ballard by Fall 1:35 in the second round. In the semifinals match Anderson would defeat Josh Barretta of Indianola TB 7-6 and advanced to the finals. In the finals Trevor would take down 21-4 Stone Mendez of Omaha Skutt Catholic by decision 3-2. Way to go Trevor!

 

Caleb Sanders won the Jack Mendenhall at 285. Like Anderson, Sanders also received a first round bye. In the second round Caleb would defeat Logan Edwards of Indianola by Fall :46. Sanders would face off against 17-5 Carter Lawrence of West Des Moines Valley in the semifinals. Sanders would get the win against Lawrence by decision 3-2. This win would set up a finals match against 28-2 Spencer Trenary of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. Sanders would get the win over Trenary by UTB 3-2.

Isaac Bales 220 finished second place at the invitational. Bales would get wins against Sam Stuve of Ames by Fall 1:50, Ben Altman of Omaha Skutt Catholic by Fall :34 and Beau Lombardi of West Des Moines Valley 9-4. In the championship match Bales would face undefeated 22-0 Greg Hagan of DOCA. Hagan defeated Bales by Fall 2:20. Great tournament Isaac!

 

After defeating Colt Carpenter of Indianola 13-5, Anthony Sherry had to end his tournament early due to an injury at 182. Brett Mower finished fourth place at 160.

 

The Rams would finish 6th place overall with 146.5 team points at the invitational. Cedar Rapids Prairie finished first with 174.5 team points.
