What’s on the line Friday night? A district runner-up and a ticket to the Class 3-A postseason (as long as either team wins out). As of now Harlan is 5-0 in District 7 with two games remaining. Both Glenwood and Winterset are sitting at 4-1 in District 7. Luckily this match-up is happening on Friday night. The 6-1 Glenwood Rams are hosting the 5-2 Winterset Huskies in what should be a defensive battle.
Last week Harlan only defeated Winterset by a score of 7-6 in Winterset. The Huskies defense is impressive this season. Lead by Matt Benshoof the Huskies defense is only allowing 13.8 points per game. Glenwood’s Andrew Blum will need to be careful with this ball on Friday. Winterset’s defense has recorded thirteen interceptions after just seven games.
Junior Quarterback Casey Kleemeier is the alpha on this Husky team. The 6’ quarterback has scored thirteen touchdowns on the year with ten of those touchdowns coming through the air. Kleemeier has only thrown two interceptions on the season and has an overall QB Rating at 144.5.
Winterset is very balanced on offense. The Huskies have rushed for 1,119 yards and have passed for 889 yards on the season. Winterset has five athletes who have rushed the ball at least forty-five times on the year. Hunter Pashek leads the team in attempts and yards with 70 attempts and 303 yards. Conner Van Pelt has scored the most touchdowns on the ground with four. Kleemeier likes to spread the ball around on offense. Eight different receivers have caught Kleemeier’s ten touchdown passes. 6’1” Senior Andrew Nicholl is the leading receiver for the Huskies. Nicholl has caught ten passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns this year.
