The Glenwood Girls’ Cross Country team is headed to the state meet after qualifying at the district meet in Atlantic Thursday night. Coming off their first Hawkeye Ten title in 22 years, the Lady Rams placed second at districts, finishing behind Ballard and edging out Denison. Junior Lacey Jackson led the Rams as she placed 12th with a time of 20:49. Seniors Kate Kaufman and Katelyn Malcom followed, placing 14th and 15th, respectively. Junior Aubrey McIntyre (17th), freshman Erin Schultz (20th), sophomore Lexi Hankins (22nd) and junior Abi Schultz (29th) rounded out a solid team performance for Glenwood. The Lady Rams will travel to Fort Dodge October 28 for the state meet and will run at 12pm.
Glenwood will also be sending Parson Covington and Mason Parks to the state meet to compete in the boys race. After going one-two at the Hawkeye Ten meet last week (Parks champion, Covington runner up), the two juniors had another stellar performance Thursday night at districts. Covington placed 11th with a time of 17:35, while Parks came closely behind at 13th, recording a time of 17:39. These two will be Glenwood’s only representatives, as the Rams fell just shy of qualifying as an entire squad, placing fourth in the team race. Covington and Parks will also be running in Fort Dodge October 28, but will run at 12:30, following the girls race.
Congrats to Glenwood Cross Country on a successful season, and good luck to all those running next week at state!
