The Glenwood Girls basketball team continued its historic season this week with two major conference wins. Monday night, the Lady Rams (11-4, 7-1) traveled to Shenandoah to take on the Fillies in a battle between two of the top squads in the Hawkeye Ten. The game was back and forth the whole way, as Glenwood trailed by a small margin at the conclusion of every quarter. However, a 28-point fourth quarter allowed the Rams to come away with a 62-53 victory. Glenwood followed up their road conference win with a home date against the Lewis Central Titans. The eighth-ranked Titans came into the game with a 14-1 record and a chance to sweep the season series against Glenwood. The Lady Rams came out firing, leading by as much as 15 points late in the second quarter. The second half was much more competitive, and a Lewis Central run early in the fourth made for an exciting finish in front of a massive crowd. The Lady Rams were able to hold on to their lead behind some timely 3-pointers from Joslyn Lewis, and clutch free throws from freshman Brynlee Arnold. Glenwood finished off the Titans, 59-54. Sophomore Elle Scarborough led the way with 14 points, while Brielle Smith poured in 12 and Madison Camden 11. This win vaulted the Lady Rams into outright second place in the Hawkeye Ten, making it undoubtedly their biggest win this season, and quite possibly the most meaningful victory for the Glenwood girls program in recent years. The Lady Rams will try to extend their winning streak as they travel to Harlan Saturday night (rescheduled from Jan. 12), followed by a trip to Creston Tuesday.
