Ram Tennis Hitting Their Peak at the Right Time

Glenwood is playing at a high level right now and I couldn’t be happier for the team. The Rams defeated Clarinda 8-1 on Monday and St. Albert 8-1 on Tuesday. The Rams have now won 20 straight regular season meets with one remaining meet this season.

The Rams have won their last four meets by a total score of 34-2. I have been witnessing an extra gear from the boys as of late. The Rams are finishing off points with an offensive mentality. Their confidence in their strokes are gaining as more and more winners are being hit every match. In the beginning of the year some of our new guys were learning how to approach the game as a varsity player. Their experience has payed off and the Rams are now looking like a deep team. Tomorrow the boys will travel to Council Bluffs and play Abraham Lincoln in their final regular season meet of 2017.

There is no doubt Glenwood’s top three of Alex Chekal, Sam Lauritsen and Adam Konfrst are competing at a very high level. The three Rams are looking for a trip back to the state individual and team tournament after some disappointing losses a season ago. Chekal, Lauritsen, and Konfrst play in the number 1,2 and 3 spots for the Rams and are currently all undefeated in singles (27-0). Kris Mintle has improved and is currently on a four game win streak in singles. Carter Benson and Josh Ruth played their best doubles match of the season last night by defeating Christian Baer and Sam Narmi of St. Albert 10-1. Senior Kyhler Campbell stepped up on Senior Night and got the win at number six singles! Congratulations Kyhler on a great win.

If the Rams continue to keep battling at practice and hit their shots with confidence they will be a tough out in postseason play. This team is always on the offense and I think that has helped them win the close matches this season.
