Last week, the boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Fort Dodge to run in the state meet. Glenwood senior Janette Schraft was crowned individual champion in the girls 3A division, winning the race by over eight seconds and taking home her first state title. Schraft’s performance helped lift the Lady Rams to a third place finish as a team, its best in school history. Following Schraft was Lacey Jackson in 21st, Abby McIntyre 30th, Erin Schultz 56th, Lauren Becker 63rd and Aubrey McIntyre 68th.

Late Lewis Central Touchdowns Thwart Glenwood's Upset Effort

It isn’t often that a team decides to revert back to an entirely different offensive scheme in week eight of any season, regardless of sport. However, it essentially worked for the Glenwood Rams (4-4, 1-3) Friday night, as they kept pace with the top-ranked team in Class 3A on the road. The Rams outgained conference rival Lewis Central (8-0, 4-0) in total yardage, but ultimately could not finish off a valiant effort against the 3A juggernaut. A pair of late touchdowns allowed the Titans to escape with a 42-14 victory, but one that didn’t come as easily as the score shows.

Rams Take Advantage of ADM Mistakes, Capture Win on Senior Night

Glenwood seniors Eli Bales and Ryan Leath lined up at the 50 yard line and got a running start into a slide through the mud at Ram Memorial Field Friday night following the Rams’ 14-6 victory over district foe ADM (4-3, 0-3). That image is a microcosm of the entire game, as wet and cold conditions proved to be a challenge for both teams throughout the evening.

After suffering two losses in a row to Winterset and Harlan, respectively, Glenwood (4-3, 1-2) used a stout defensive effort and a few timely ADM mistakes to tally a win on senior night.

Mulligan, Harlan Hand Rams Second District Loss

The chilly weather across the state Friday night did not halt the Harlan Cyclone air attack from thrashing the Glenwood defense, as the Rams (3-3, 0-2) lost their second straight game by a score of 42-12. Led by senior quarterback Preston Mulligan, Harlan (5-1, 2-0) nabbed its second district win of the season.

Mulligan completed 23 passes for a whopping 420 yards and four touchdowns on the evening, finding a plethora of different receivers both inside and outside the numbers.

Rams Fall to Winterset in District Opener, Prepare for Harlan

It only took one half of football for Winterset quarterback Casey Kleemeier to rack up over 100 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns. Likewise, it took only one half of football for the Huskies to spoil Glenwood’s homecoming festivities Friday night, as the Rams fell to Winterset 21-7 in a game that saw all its points scored in the second half.

Glenwood volleyball is headed toward the home stretch of the 2018 season. The Lady Rams have a combined record of 12-6 on the year and currently sit fourth in the Hawkeye Ten. With signature conference victories over Red Oak and Denison, Glenwood will look to add to its winning record as they approach the final six games on the regular season schedule.
