2017-18 Top Three Sports Season Moments

The 2017-18 Glenwood Sports calendar sports season has officially wrapped up. As always I would like to take the time to highlight my top three sports moments from the 2017-18 calendar sports season. As always it can be very difficult to pick out my top three and I’m sure I am probably missing something.

#1 Glenwood Boys Basketball Winning Class 3A State Basketball Tournament

Ram Cross Country Results from South Dakota Marathon Fundraiser

Coach Peverill's Recap:

Three Glenwood seniors, who are members of the Glenwood Rams Cross Country team traveled to Spearfish, SD on July 14, 2018 to participate in the half marathon fundraiser.  

This event is an annual fundraiser, which benefits the abused and neglected children through the Northern Hills Area CASA program.

 

This year's race had 317 registered participants.

Carter Earns Elite Camper Award at North Dakota State INDY Camp

Last Thursday Glenwood Senior Noah Carter had the opportunity to compete at the NDSU Bison Football INDY Camp. North Dakota State has a terrific NCAA Division 1 Football Championship Subdivision program. The Bison have won fourteen national titles with their latest titles coming in 2011,12,13,14,15, and 17 all as DIV. 1 FCS. Noah Carter was Glenwood’s second leading rusher from a season ago with 987 yards. Carter averaged 6.2 yards per carry a season ago and scored twenty rushing touchdowns on the year.

 

Ram Baseball Picking Up Momentum

Over the weekend Glenwood defeated Red Oak 10-0, 10-3 after falling to Atlantic 2-1 and Sioux City East 10-5. The Rams have been playing well as of late. Glenwood has now won five out of their last seven games. This week the baseball team will once again have a big week. Glenwood has five games on the schedule.

 

Bertini Throws Complete Game in Win Over Clarinda

Taryn Bertini was the winning pitcher for the Rams after defeating the Cardinals 7-1. Bertini threw all seven innings for the Rams. Glenwood is now 16-3 on the season and 10-2 in the Hawkeye Ten.

Brielle Smith hit a two run home run to lead the Rams. Brooklyn Taylor also had a great night after going 3-4 from the plate. Glenwood scored two runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and two runs in the seventh. The Rams scored their seven runs on seven hits.

Rams Sweep the Panthers on the Road

Last night the Glenwood Softball and Baseball Teams traveled to Creston for a couple Hawkeye Ten battles. The baseball team won 18-9 over Creston while the softball team won 8-7.

The softball team on 8-7 on fifteen hits. Sydney Biermann pitched a complete game for the Rams. Biermann struckout seven batters on the night. Haylle Sell and Erin Stanley each had great nights at the plate. Sell batted 4-4 while Stanley went 3-3 at the plate. The Rams are now 11-1 on the season and 8-1 in the conference.

 

Weight Room Growth Building Success in Glenwood

It’s that time of year to update all the Ram Fans on the current weightlifting records. Coach Faust is building a powerhouse in Glenwood. My hat goes off to all the 100 plus athletes who are getting into the gym EVERY WEEKDAY this summer. Many people around the area wonder why Glenwood has progressed in almost every sport over the last few years??? Walk into the gym during the summer. The Rams have one of the bigger weight rooms in the state and the room is filled every morning with Ram Athletes.
