Rams Dominate Monarchs in Second District Victory

Glenwood (4-1, 2-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 52-14 blowout of Denison (3-2, 2-1) Friday night. The Ram offense was rolling with a dangerous rushing attack and a stellar performance from the offensive line, all while their defense was the same as it has been all season, holding their fifth straight opponent to less than 20 points.

Head Coach Cory Faust was pleased with the sharpness his squad exhibited after a sloppy start to the season on offense.

Class 3A District 7 Rundown: Week Five

Week four was for an interesting one in District 7. Harlan took the reigns in the standings with a road win at Glenwood, Denison dominated Creston on the road and Carroll was nearly stunned by ADM (but not quite). As for tomorrow night, there are some pretty good match ups on the slate that could shake up the standings even more. So, without further ado, the week five District 7 rundown:

Glenwood Comeback Falls Short, Cyclones Win Heavyweight Bout

The Glenwood Rams (3-1, 1-1) are no strangers to being down late in the game. “The Kardiac Kids” almost did it again, but in the end, the Harlan Cyclones (3-1, 2-0) walked away from Ram Memorial Field with a 17-14 victory.

It was a defensive battle, a coaching chess match and a dog fight until the final whistle. Glenwood Head Coach Cory Faust was impressed with his team’s effort, even if it was a losing one.

“I thought it was a good effort,” he said. “I mean, Harlan’s got a good team, so I don’t doubt our guys’ effort at all.”

Class 3A District 7 Rundown: Week Four

Week three of high school football was full of surprises in District 7. A blowout win for Harlan over Creston, and two games decided by less than four points made for an exciting opening week of district play. The Glenwood-Harlan game is obviously our game of the week selection, and the full preview of that matchup can be found here. But while all you Ram fans perform your gameday-eve rituals (whatever those may be) in preparation for tomorrow night’s battle here in Glenwood, let’s take a look at the rest of the action around the district:

Defense Holds Strong as Rams Claw Back to edge Tigers

The Glenwood Rams (3-0, 1-0) have revived the classic 1980 Cleveland Browns’ nickname “The Kardiac Kids” for the time being. After a come-from-behind win last week over Thomas Jefferson, Glenwood found themselves in the same position last night against the Carroll Tigers (1-2, 0-1). The Rams stormed back from 12 down with just eight minutes remaining, scoring 13 unanswered to close out the game, stealing a 13-12 road victory.

Now that we have had a “warm up” in the 2017 season, it’s time to get down to business. Non-district play is finally over, and there are some intriguing match ups on the slate for the opening week of district play. Since the Glenwood-Carroll game is seemingly highly anticipated, the full preview and predictions for that game can be found here. On another note, here is what other action we will see around District 7 this week:

Rams Prepare for District Battle with Carroll

The 2-0 Glenwood Rams will travel up to Carroll to take on the 1-1 Tigers in a week three district opener on Friday night. If there is one team the Rams are familiar with at this point, it’s the Carroll Tigers. In fact, in his postgame interview following Glenwood’s comeback win over Thomas Jefferson last week, senior quarterback Andrew Blum pointed out the familiarity these two teams have with each other when asked about their week three matchup.

“We’ve seen a lot of Carroll these last couple years, that’s for sure.” said Blum.
