Osterloh and Taylor Help Lift Glenwood Over Red Oak

The Glenwood Girls Tennis Team defeated Red Oak 5-4 last night to remain undefeated on the season at 4-0. Ellie Osterloh looked impressive as she defeated Sarah Behrens (Senior) 8-2 in number one singles. "GREAT win for Ellie at #1 vs Behrens.  Ellie dominated the entire match starting out ahead 3 - 0. Ellie played well and had many winning shots." said Coach Ohm

Ram Tennis Looked Impressive Against a Tough Trojan Team

Yesterday the boys tennis team took their thirteen regular season match win streak on the road against a tough and undefeated Atlantic Trojan team. The matchup was between two 2-0 teams as Glenwood has defeated Southwest Valley 7-2 and Lewis Central 9-0 while Atlantic defeated Carroll Kuemper 6-3 and Creston 9-0.

 

Ram Tennis Crowned Champs at the Fillies Invite

Saturday Glenwood Girls Tennis Team traveled to Shenandoah for the 2017 Fillies Tennis Invitational. Glenwood tied with Shenandoah with twelve overall team points but the Rams were crowned champions after winning the head to head tiebreaker. Denison finished third with eleven team points and St. Albert finished fourth with five points. The number one doubles team of Brooklyn Taylor and Ruby Crow on the tournament after defeating J. Beck and R. Heilesen of Denison 6-2, 6-2 in the finals.

Rams Sweep Sioux City

Yesterday the girls tennis team took their 1-0 record on the road and took on Sioux City East and West in a triangular. The first match of the day Glenwood defeated Sioux City East 9-0. Ellie Osterloh won 8-0 over Taylor Pick in number one singles. Ruby Crow, Erin Stanley and Brielle Smith all won 8-1 in singles. Brooklyn Taylor defeated Brooklyn Neison 8-5 and Sierra Stouder defeated Alexa Heltman 8-3.

Short Handed Rams Defeat Southwest Valley

Last night the boys played their season opener against Southwest Valley. Despite missing one of their top players the Rams stepped up and defeated Southwest Valley 7-2. Glenwood's top three in singles Sam Lauritsen, Adam Konfrst and Kris Mintle all looked impressive in their matches. Lauritsen, Konfrst and Mintle all won their singles 8-2. Sophomore Carter Benson and Senior Kyhler Campbell both won their first varsity matches. Junior Josh Ruth lost 6-8 in a hard fought battle. Sam Lauritsen and Adam Konfrst teamed up for the first time in doubles and impressed the crowd.

Rams Defeat Titans 6-3

Yesterday the girls tennis team started their season off win a win on the road. The Rams defeated the Lewis Central Titans 6-3. Brooklyn Taylor, Ruby Crow and Sierra Stouder all picked up wins in singles. Heading into doubles the match was tied 3-3. Glenwood swept doubles to pick up the win 6-3. Sierra Stouder and Ruby Crow looked impressive winning 8-1 in their doubles match. "Crow and Stouder continued where they left of last season" said coach Ohm. Next up for Glenwood will be Sioux City East on Thursday. Good job ladies!

Ram Tennis Brings Home 4th Place at State

The Glenwood Ram Tennis Team advancedto the Final Four on Tuesday which was held at Waveland Tennis Courts in Des Moines, Iowa. Glenwood would finish fourth place in the state.

In the first match the Rams faced the undefeated number two seed LeMars. The Rams played tough but Lemars would defeat Glenwood 5-0. Ethan Thompson was the player of the match for the Rams.  In the consolation finals Glenwood was defeated by Grinnell 0-5. Sean Harper finished his season as the player of the match with a tough three set battle. 

Boys Tennis Headed to the Final Four

On Saturday the Glenwood Boys Tennis Team were one of the final 16 tennis teams left in the state. The boys first played North Polk in the round of 16. Glenwood defeated North Polk 5-1. Glenwood picked up singles wins from Chekal, Bertini, Konfrst, and Thompson and a doubles win from Lauritsen/Chekal.  The next round in the final eight the team qualified for the 2016 Iowa State Tennis Tournament and faced Boone, Iowa. The match was the best match I have been at in my entire tennis career, both playing and coaching. The boys played tough from start to finish and never gave up.

Girls Tennis Takes Third at Hawkeye 10

Monday and Tuesday the girls tennis team traveled to Atlantic for the Hawkeye 10 tennis tournament. Rain caused the tournament to stop on Monday and the girls traveled back up to Atlantic to finish on Tuesday. The girls finished third place at the tournament with 19 team points. Creston won the meet with 28 and Shenandoah finished second with 21 team points. Senior Sam Umberger was the top finisher for the Rams. Umberger finished in second place in the number two singles losing to Alli Thomsen from Creston in the finals.
